From an SEO point of view, content is crucial. Well written, informative, search optimized content can earn top search positions for the phrases you're targeting. We all know that to rank for key phrases, you have to use those phrases in your content. Way back when, the percentage of key phrases on a given page mattered. Keyword density was a big deal.
There were (and still are) tools and services dedicated to helping Websites achieve the "perfect" keyword density. While those tools still exist, focusing on the percentage of keywords in your content is an outdated SEO tactic. There are different, updated ways to search optimize your content and see results. Striving to hit a "perfect keyword percentage" is no longer one of them.
In 2004, the keyword density suggested for success on Google was 2.5% to 3%. Many SEOs used Keyword Density Analyzers to assess the keyword density within content. These tools ensured accuracy and precision, important to this mathematical approach to SEO. By simply changing the percentage of key phrases within the body content of a Web page, SEOs could watch search positions change.
This overstuffing of keywords made the copy choppy to read. Fortunately, search engines, especially Google, just don't work like this anymore.
Over the years, E-Power Marketing and other successful SEO firms have left behind the systematic, mathematical approaches to search engine optimization. Instead, we focus on current, innovative tactics. We focus on giving searchers quality content, optimized to perform technically well on search engines. The SEO industry has adapted, and to be successful, your search engine optimization campaign must adapt too.
If you're focusing on keyword density and percentages, you're focusing on the wrong things. Write content for potential customers. Educate them on your products and services. Let them know about your company and why they should buy from you. Use the right keywords, but don't let percentages rule.
The highly publicized Panda Update from Google was designed to enhance the user experience by rewarding quality content. Panda is proof that search engines are rewarding Websites that are valuable to its searchers, not those that try to manipulate search rankings. More and more, low quality content will hurt you on the search engines.
