E-Power Travels: Playa del Carmen, Mexico

This past October, my husband Michael and I got married! We left for our honeymoon the night of our wedding and jetted off the next day to a surprise location that Mike kept a secret from me until we touched down in sunny and very humid Mexico. Right from the
beginning of our engagement, he wanted to plan the honeymoon by himself and keep it a secret until we left. Luckily for him, he chose Playa del Carmen, Mexico, which doesn’t have a dedicated airport, so he waited until we flew into Cancun and boarded the shuttle to share where we would be staying for the next 7 days.

Mike chose the beautiful Paradisus resort in Playa del Carmen. Positioning itself as a luxury hotel, Paradisus boasts spacious rooms, a private jacuzzi on its balconies, and 14 gourmet restaurants.

Choosing Paradisus

Of course once we got to the resort, I asked Mike all about his thought process in choosing it. He shared that there were multiple factors that went into his decision, as with most travelers. Mike had a list of specific things he was looking for when selecting a location, which he did through Costco Travel. He said the resort had to be:

  • Adults Only
  • All-Inclusive with Top Shelf Liquor Included (he is a Jack Daniel's enthusiast)
  • High-End
  • Fairly Newer (built within the last five years or so)

He chose to use Costco Travel to book it because of a recommendation given to him by a Costco employee when he inquired about their travel services at our Appleton, WI location. She raved about her recent trip to Mexico and said their travel agents were top-notch and recommendations were spot on.

Mike used his smart phone to research the list of resorts the travel agent gave him and followed suit with the 54% of leisure travelers who book their trip using another device because of mobile limitations, to confirm all our travel plans.

Exploring our Destination

According to think with Google, 50% of international travelers use smartphones to look for things to do once at their destination. This held true for Mike and I as we connected our smartphones to Wi-Fi the minute we got to Paradisus and started researching excursions to take. Luckily for us, Paradisus had the travel company we booked through at our hotel to help us choose which activities to do. While we were there we:

  • Jet Skied
  • Snorkeled
  • Saw the Mayan Ruins
  • Went Deep Sea Fishing
  • Took a Mixology Class

Impressive Branding

As a marketer, I was super impressed with the branding at Paradisus. They had subtle nuances of their brand everywhere. Purple is their signature color and was incorporated into their drink cups, pens in the hotel room, signature drink that they gave when we first arrived, and lighting around the grounds. They also used their logo impeccably even to the extent of stamping it in the sand of their ash trays! Paradisus also used aroma therapy throughout their entire resort that created a unique experience and memory.

Overall, Mike and I both loved our travel experience with Paradisus. It was the perfect way to spend our first week married. We had such a great time that we plan on going back for another stay in 2017!
